Wk2: Kirkpatrick Level 1 Survey

This survey is designed to gather feedback on the following learning activities from Module 1.1: Decorating Dhivehi Emotion Words:

  • Activity 1: Exploring Emotion Words (Acquisition): Learners watch a video introducing six emotions, repeating the words for pronunciation.

  • Activity 2: Sustainable Emotion Word Decoration (Production): Learners physically cut and decorate cardboard letters of an emotion word using recycled materials, then present their work using simple sentences.

Reflection on the Process

LMS & Platform Choice

One of the biggest elements that fell into place for me this week was the decision to switch LMS platforms. Although I chose Canvas Free for Teachers last week, a peer review led me to explore LearnWorlds. I found it to be the closest I could get to my ideal platform, given my limitations. It offers crucial support for Right-to-Left (RTL) languages like Dhivehi, includes built-in options for interactive videos and e-books, and provides affordable subscription plans.

Insights from a Real-World Experience

My experience creating this week's survey was directly informed by a new real-world teaching opportunity. As luck would have it, the teacher for a Grade 5 class—which my daughter happens to be in—invited me to take a lesson on stop-motion animation this week, as she knew I was also an animator (This was my first ever experience taking a formal lesson for a proper class of 24). This 90-minute experience with 24 kids gave me a huge insight (observation opportunity) into how learners of this age think, and it motivated me to design a feedback form specifically for this age group (Oala Level 3).

LearnWorlds offers a cool UI for ratings, with options like stars and hearts, but for lower grades (especially Level 1), the form’s visuals need to be much more customisable to be truly age-appropriate.

Using the Feedback

I plan to use this feedback form in my next lesson with the same students to see their responses, which will be invaluable for improving the learning experience for future learners. The information I gather will be used to refine the learning activities, making them more engaging, relevant, and age-appropriate.
